On Monday, August 1, the Arts Council of Tamworth welcomed Carly Goss as its new executive director. Carly follows Juno Lamb who steadily guided the organization for over eight years and whose herculean efforts brought many rich experiences to the community, including the recent creation of the mosaic outside the K. A. Brett school.
Carly brings her own breadth of talent to the position. A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Carly is a lifelong weaver of fabric and people. She spent four years as President of Charm City Mafia in Baltimore where she “connected makers with unexpected partners, audiences, and venues.” More recently, she has co-created a Sacred Harp singing group in Jackson and Berlin, NH and manages her own hand-weaving business, Carlybird Weaves. She and her partner reside in Bartlett.
Carly impressed the search committee as someone who listens deeply to others, has a strong foundation in the arts, and greatly values community collaboration. “She’s someone with seemingly boundless energy and passion for our mission to inspire and empower others through art,” says Board President, Courtney Spalding-Mayer. “We are lucky to be where we are thanks to Juno’s vision and are excited for our future with Carly.”
The Arts Council of Tamworth will celebrate its 50th year this season. While its focus has shifted over the decades, its core belief in the value of art in all its forms has never gone away.
“When we work together with our hands and feet we create moments of joy and embrace moments of sadness,” Carly says. “When we share our songs, our images, our words, and our skills—when we include our children in every artful moment we can—something much greater than the sum of those individual contributions erupts. Art-making starts powerful conversations and allows us to be fully present in our world. I look forward to creating opportunities for all members of the community to know each other through art.”
The celebration starts this fall with South African sensation Tuelo and Her Cousins live at The Barnstormers Theatre in Tamworth on Friday, October 21 at 7:30pm. Tickets will continue to be the Arts Tamworth mainstay of Choose Your Own Ticket Price.
