Arts Council of Tamworth is excited to bring Japanese storyteller and mime Motoko to Tamworth for five days of school and community workshops and to entertain and delight us with her storytelling in a performance on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 PM at Tamworth Congregational Church in Tamworth. Tickets on sale online at artstamworth.org and at the door. Choose Your Own Ticket Price, $5 to $30 for adults, $0 to $5 for youth to 18. Motoko will offer two workshops for the public. On Tuesday, November 3, join us for a professional development workshop, “Storytelling, Movement and Creativity,” for teachers in all grades and subjects and other interested parties, 3:30-5:00 PM at the K. A. Brett School in Tamworth, NH. Refreshments at 3:30, workshop at 3:45. Please RSVP is you are able: artstamworth@gmail.com. On Wednesday, November 4, come to a Storytelling Lab with Motoko at Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth, 6:30-8:30 PM. People preparing stories for Tamworth’s 250th and everyone else are welcome to come learn skills for telling a riveting story—no experience necessary. Bring refreshments to share if you wish. Both workshops are free; donations welcome. Motoko will be in residency at K. A. Brett from November 2-6, and will tell stories to various age groups on Monday, November 2. Award-winning storyteller Motoko enchants audiences of every age with her weaving of ancient lore, original tales, lyrical movement and traditional music. A native of Osaka, Japan, Motoko has performed professionally since 1993 in schools, libraries, colleges and festivals across the U.S.
A native of Osaka, Japan, Motoko first came to the US as an exchange student to University of Massachusetts. She trained with late master mime Tony Montanaro (1927-2002). Her partner Eshu Bumpus introduced her to the world of American storytelling. Motoko has performed professionally since 1993, going to hundreds of schools, libraries, museums and festivals. Motoko has appeared on “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” and an educational video by Harcourt, and has been awarded numerous grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and New York State BOCES. Her debut CD, “The Promise of Chrysanthemums,” won a Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Award and a Storytelling World Award.
